Unless you are waking up tired then you do not need to worry about your sleep pattern. There is often a mis match between how often we would like to have to slept and how much we really sleep.
That does not make it a clinical problem.
You should however sleep at the same time everyday. Many things and life events can disturb regular sleep pattern – and if it persists you can seek help.
Please do not self diagnose your sleep problem.
For known sleep issues like jet lag, over working, etc you can buy a medicine to help you. This will help you and the issue will resolve – you are unlikely to remember it as an episode.
Any prolonged sleep disturbance, either getting to sleep or actual duration of sleep – you should speak to your GP.
You may or may be not be prescribed medicine by your GP – considering your overall health.
It has never been our approach to throw instructions at our patients – but we do not think its easier to sleep cycle by following everything which your parents must have told you when you were a baby yourself.
Get in the bed at the same time every day, shut or dim the lights, put the book or mobile devices away, close your eyes and sing yourself a nice song – if someone can sing you lullaby then great !
Just because it didnt work on day one, you should not stop this routine. Avoid eating or drinking too close to your bedtime.
