Being down and being clinically depressed and getting some medicine for depression are all different things. You must not trust your self-diagnosis but if your friends or family member have highlighted big change in your mood or behaviour then you should take steps, at least to understand that change.
Your GP can give anti-depressants, you should take them along with other little practical steps, including exercise.

Needless to add that drugs or alcohol do not help with depression or over eating.
It’s not easy to find the real reason behind depression, it could be staring in your face and the danger of facing one’s very own fears would stop you.
Life can have good and bad times. Sometimes thing will be out of your hands and you will not be able to do much – however that time will pass.
It’s ok to be concerned but its completely different thing to completely give up on yourself.
It’s not right to not ask for help. Would you not have helped your friend if they needed you ?
Your family and friends will love you for trusting them in your hard time. You can reciprocate if they ever needed help.
You will know what motivates you, whether you are a detail person or you just need little information in order to help yourself.
You will find your own improvement in your time but other’s will help.
